What is the best measure of social media success? Time! Time is teaching us that good use of the social networks creates a "word of mouth" marketing campaign on steroids. Those having some of the best success with this phenomenon are hotels. The hotel industry spends many precious dollars luring customers to their sites. The purpose is to energize those people who love you anyway. In marketing terms these people are called your "brand advocates." In The New Handshake we talk a lot about getting your customers on board and how the social media can help you do that. Not only do your brand advocates talk about how great you are, they also generate more leads for your sales team. These people can work for you or against you. They have power in both directions. But as we point out in the book, they'll talk about you on line if you're naughty, whether you participate openly or not. So, why not get on board and start making use of word of mouth marketing on steroids?
For some of you this is all still very new. For others of you, this is becoming part of your every day life. We'd love to hear from both. What is working? Are you using Facebook for business? Do you have an active business page on Facebook? Are you creating a buzz on Twitter with coupons and give-aways? What about your use of LinkedIn to generate leads? Are you using YouTube to showcase yourself? Tell us what you're doing! Inquiring minds want to know.
